I’ve reviewed a number of external battery options for the iPhone in the past, which is why I took an interest in Dexim’s P-Flip Foldable Power Dock. As the name implies, it’s foldable and it’s a dock, but it actually offers much more than that. First off, the dock itself houses a 2000 mAh battery. To put that into perspective, it actually extends your iPhone’s talk time by up to eight hours, video time up to 15 and audio playback up to 80! In addition, it can be flipped around to either serve as a stand or a hands-free viewing option for your iPhone.
In my tests the P-Flip worked as promised. First, I watched two 2+ hour movies on a plane. Second, in between flights I texted, e-mailed, browsed the web and made phone calls. By the time my flight was done I still had 100 percent of my iPhone’s battery life left.
As for the stand aspect, it works fine for keeping my iPhone standing in portrait mode and the included sync cable allows it to sync with iTunes while charging. However, the company also touts it as a great hands-free alternative for viewing movies on your iPhone. In my tests it failed that part of the test since it doesn’t offer the ability to swivel in any way, and as a result presents the screen of the iPhone head-on, with no way of altering the viewing angle.
With the exception of the viewing angle, the P-Flip Foldable Power Dock performs perfectly every time and is now a regular in my laptop bag.
